From the
time she was a young girl, Heather Height knew she wanted to perform.
“I was
bitten by the performance bug in the 4th grade.
I was part of the elementary school chorus. It
just felt natural. I immediately loved it,” Height said.
Heather
would not go on to fulfill that dream until 28 years later,
when she first stepped on stage at the open mic at Wisecrackers in Scranton,
PA.
But when she did, it was as if she had been performing for years.
Her sweet disposition juxtaposed against her biting satire leaves the
audience laughing wildly and wondering “did that nice girl just say that?”
Heather
muses about many of the things that women, as well as people in general,
can identify with. Talking about everything from being a single mom to
peoples’
insecurities about sex, no cow is sacred enough for Heather not to skewer.
“Most of
what I’ve written is stuff that has actually happened to me.
When it comes to writing material, there’s just no substitute
for your own real world experiences,” Height said.
Heather
has shared the stage with such national touring acts as Robert Kelly,
Kevin Downey Jr, Otto & George, Vanessa Hollingshead, and Paul Bond.
She has appeared on the nationally syndicated “Opie and Anthony Show,”
as well as “Weird Medicine w/ Dr. Steve” on Sirius/XM Satellite Radio.
She performs regularly in New York City
at The Broadway Comedy Club’s World Room, and is a regular at McGuire’s
Comedy Club in Bohemia, NY, Wisecrackers in Scranton, PA, and is also the
co-host of the award-winning internet radio show/podcast “Hate Speech Radio,”
on www.losetheradio.com, a name that, at first glance,
leaves people scratching their heads.
“When
David (Harris, HSR creator/host/future Mr. Height) created the show,
it was done as a response to the firing of (New York radio personality)
Don Imus, whom he holds in high regard. The idea was that if the politically
correct segment of society was going to label anything said in humor as
“hate speech,” then he, and subsequently, we, would take that name as part
of our show, and be the smartest, funniest, and raunchiest show on the
internet. Hate Speech Radio was born out of peoples’ inability
to take a joke,” Height said.
